Third Eye Hifi presents: Amen Sessions

This night is brought to you by those in the Third Eye crew with a passion for all things jungle music – a culture now clocking in at a powerful 30 years of accumulated history.

A musical movement born in inner city London in the early-mid 90s with an ethos comparable to and directly influenced by that of New York hip-hop in the 80s – young people making music using what was available. Sampling breaks, vocals, and melodies from soul, funk, and jazz records. Using new futuristic sounds of synths and digital tracker programs to arrange the tunes and DIY pirate radio stations to spread it.

Atmospheric pads, pulsing bass lines, scatty, complex, chopped, and edited break beats to light up the mind and energize the feet. Uniting the working class regardless of race.

The scene grew, evolved, and created offshoots of new genres but has always kept a core of devoted followers skanking through the night in clubs, and through sunrise in the warehouses and fields of the underground.

This night aims to showcase a comprehensive variety of what makes jungle a genre that has such passionate followers.

We’ve got OG selects with bags of vinyl from the early days through to now, DJs with USBs full of fresh underground releases and two currently active producers coming down from Auckland using both live hardware and DAWs to put their own mark on the sound while maintaining a solid connection to the roots.

It’s gonna be a banger, get ya ticket.
