Friday the 3rd March brings together 2 iconic British acts who have lead the journey into bass in the last 30 yrs with The Ragga Twins playing with support from Bristol legend now living in NZ RSD . With full local support from Jafa Mafia celebrating an EP release as well as djs from The Ports Dub Collective ,you know this will be a gig for the ages . The Ragga Twins Crew consist of Deman Rockers , Flinty Badman & Dj Krucial , they have been working together now for over 12 years , performing all over UK and abroad.
Ragga Twins, 30 years strong, are the originators of jungle music and have had countless releases in breakbeat , reggae , Dnb , EDM and other genres and have worked with top producers, Skrillex being the biggest of them all with tracks like Ragga Bomb , All is fair and badman remix.
Krucial has been djing a very long time, originally playing on Kool Fm, he hooked up with Deman Rockers and has become Ragga Twins’ regular DJ. RSD/ Tobi Jafa present the new EP from Jafa Sound featuring jungle/dubstep remixes from Auckland to Bristol and beyond. RSD, perhaps better known as Bristol bass music stalwart Rob Smith and one half of the respected production duo Smith and Mighty, has been pushing bass heavy rhythms for more than 3 decades. After being stuck in NZ after the first Lockdown of 2020, Rob looked around and decided this was where he wanted to be. So now RSD one of the greatest heavy Bass producers in the world is based in NZ .
Forming the, now legendary, production duo Smith and Mighty with collaborator Ray Mighty in 1987, the pair’s early releases on the Three Stripe label were influential in laying the groundwork for both the trip hop and jungle scenes for which Bristol would become renowned. As well as their own releases, they take production credit for Massive Attacks first release ’Any Love’ and Fresh Fours top ten hit ’Wishing on a star’.
From there it went to a world-wide respected musical career as Smith & Mighty – with world-tours and releases on K7 – including the now legendary DJ Kicks Mix series.
Rob remains firmly at the forefront of Bristol’s endlessly inventive music scene, with a staggering discography and a range of projects encompassing dub, drum and bass, 2-step and dubstep, Rob Smith has his finger squarely on the bass-pulse.
Under the moniker RSD, Rob Smith produces fresh, innovative bass music that simultaneously pays dues to his deep soundsystem roots while pushing things forward. Here’s a wee bio on PDC…“Port Dubs Collective” better known as “PDC Sound system” headed by Gray Russell aka Graysound and his right-hand man Tyler Dellow aka D-Low, is a crew that has grown through the love of sound system music and culture. The inception began many moons ago in a small flat a top Fearnhill down in Queenstown with two best friends Graysound & Wreckage jamming tunes in their lounge all hours of the day (and night). From those small beginnings birthed a love of playing out in clubs and quickly followed by big chunky sound systems that made you feel the music not just hear it. Around 2013 the system build began in a garage with the original bins being made from scrap ply from work and a trusty skill saw. To say lessons have been learnt over time is and understatement but it has grown slowly grown to the beast it is today the 5-way custom built beast that you can catch in and around the greater Auckland Area. You’ll find the many PDC selecta’s playing everything from sound system cultures Jamaican roots such as dub, roots, rock steady, reggae & steppas through to the modern-day genres that grew roots from those very same origins, but all taste makers in their own right. You’ll find them playing multi genre sets that take you on a journey.
PDC was birthed with the aim of giving new and old DJs alike a place to relax, have fun and jam with their mates, share knowledge and just general music banter. In a time where the perfect blend seems clinical and easy with sync buttons, quantized tracks and serious faces, this crew likes to take themselves a little less serious and just enjoy the moment and have fun.
