The previous edition of Lateral Movement kicked off last Summer with an experimental techno night for the ages – those that were there will know what we mean.
Now things are cooling down again, so we figured it was about time to dust off the dancefloor and chuck some heaters back on the speakers. Installation 3.0 is here, and we’re bringing it to Meow in a big way on Saturday May 13th.
Keeping on brand to present the unexpected, we’ve stacked this line-up with something not seen often enough in the Aotearoa club circuit – live electronic performances.
Experimental techno duo Crone will be performing their hybrid live club set one last time before leaving the country. Similarly presenting a hybrid live set, Ōtautahi-based Junus Orca is set to bring some raw industrial dance cuts to the capital. And in what might be the only time you’ll see a drum kit on stage at a club night, we’re welcoming Whanganui live electronic duo BIRDPARTY, whom some may recognise as being a new project formed by live electronic legend Ludus and metal scene multi-instrumentalist William Barrett.
We’ve also managed to get in touch with Te-Whanganui-a-Tara’s mysterious Aphex Twin adjacent Flip for Garth who’s set to play a rare and mind-blowing live hardware set. On top of that local rising-star Pothos will grace the decks, a name you’ll recognise from many of the capital’s finest dance nights in recent times. Last but not least, by order of graffiti in the bathrooms at Midnight Espresso, local ghost Gengar is coming out of their haunt to set off the night right.
Of course, music is only half of the experience. Three avant-garde visual creatives – cyberboy666, Imazahl, and NES.R – have cooked up a visual concept for the night that promises to be immersive and very much out of the ordinary.
Lateral Movement 3.0 is shaping up to be a night not to miss – grab a presale here to lock it in:
