FREAKOUT 2023 — Halloween on Karangahape Road

On 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟴 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿, Tāmaki Makaurau’s most notorious strip is going to be throbbing with voodoo drums and laser beams, wild dancers, wicked parties, killer queens, and a decadent selection of delicious food and succulent fluids.

To heighten your senses, visual artist 𝗖𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀 will be laser mapping the historic façade of the Naval & Family Hotel (now Calendar Girls) and creeping out St Kevins Arcade with lasers and lighting effects.

St Kevins Arcade will also host a monstrous Halloween Market by 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿, featuring a coin-operated Halloween machine full of Aotearoa-made prizes. Elsewhere on the street, 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 will be creating a Day of the Dead style shrine in a disused space.

Performers on-the-night will include boundary-busting dance artist 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗿-𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, the creepy-crawly 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, and the hi-voltage 𝗛𝗲𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗮 roller skaters. Plus, a mind-bending line-up of DJs, drummers and performers on the corner of Pitt St and K’ Road, and outside St Kevins Arcade.
