Chris Reed
Veteran DJ, producer, promoter and label boss Chris Reed’s earliest adventures in music were in his native northern England, as the house music revolution took hold in the late 1980s.
His first EP was a white label sold from the back of his car. A string of subsequent singles, included a release on legendary Belgian label R&S.
After moving to New Zealand more than 20 years ago, he was part of the crew behind the infamous Mum’s The Word parties.
With Paul Radley he produced house and nu-disco as Reed & Radley and Monkey Boots respectively.
During a 20-year collaboration the pair had releases on Nottingham’s influential DiY Discs and NZ’s groundbreaking Reliable Recordings before signing to Auckland’s Grass Green. There, they racked up multiple number ones on digital stores and received support from some of the finest in underground music.
Chris is a key part of NZ’s Natural Rhythms crew, which manages a suite of labels, including Electric Orange and Grass Green.
He continues to release music in a variety of styles and under a number of names. His next single is Sisley’s Groove, as Mono/Loco, for Electric Orange.
His ideal DJ sets are deep and driving – often percussion-heavy but never at the expense of the groove.
Three decades since his first release, he has never been more committed to underground house music and club culture.
Dean Webb
Dean started buying records when he was 12 years old and in 1990 started learning to DJ with his older brother. Originally, starting out as a hip hop DJ he later gravitated into house and techno. After playing different parties and clubs in Auckland, he became resident DJ alongside Rob Salmon and Greg Churchill at the infamous Box nightclub and co-hosted Beats per Minute on 95BFM from 1995 – 1998.

Moving to London in 2000, he became resident DJ at South Side Soul in Brixton which hosted numerous guest DJs from the UK and NZ. The night was a major success and quoted as “a word of mouth phenomenon and the place to be” by Time Out magazine.
South Side Soul led to the formation of other parties in London such as Cultural Disobedience with Soho’s Flying Records and Retox with Music Is Records head honcho Robert Barrett (Stillwaters). He also became resident at Throb techno parties in Leeds.
Returning to Auckland in 2017, he teamed up with soul singer Sandy Mill to form live house duo Soul Suite and plays regularly at various bars and clubs. Music production also now a focus and new releases are coming in 2023.
Dean’s sound is unique to him and he always stays true to himself. His influences are firmly grounded in soul from Detroit and Chicago. Expect a journey from deep to jacking house and driving techno.
